Also they burn 5 "Upali" in Holika Dahan Agni as it shows their belief of burning all their problems. Holika is worshiped to burn all kinds of body problems and get blessings from Holika Mata with good health.
At one time there was a demon king named Hiranyakashyap. He was a cruel king, he was so arrogant that he commanded everyone in his kingdom to worship him only. He was spending his life in luxury. He had a son named Prahlad. Prahlada was a sensible child. He was a child with sharp intellect and faith in God. He was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu.
Hiranyakashyap also had a sister named Holika. Holika has special significance in this story. Holika received 1 boon. She had the boon that if she ever enters the fire she will have nothing in the fire. That is, he had victory over Agni. But in the happiness of receiving the boon, Holika forgot to listen to a sentence which said that if any person with Holika comes in the fire, then the boon will be fruitless in this situation.
Hiranyakashyap's atrocities had crossed the border. He even employs his son in his service. Outrage had spread to the whole public. When Prahlada grew up and became more sensible, due to great disappointment with the atrocities of Hiranyakashipu, his son, Prahlada became a devotee of Lord Narayana and refused to worship his father. As soon as Hiranyakashyap came to know about this, Hiranyakashyap got angry. He tried to convince his son a lot, but Prahlada refused to obey him.
Hiranyakashipu made various attempts to kill his son Prahlad but Lord Vishnu saved Prahlad every time. Many times he tried to kill his son but still could not do anything. Finally, a thought came to his mind. He knew that his sister had got a boon that fire could not spoil her sister's anything. He asks his sister, Holika, to enter a blazing fire with Prahlad on her lap.
His sister agreed to go into the fire. Baby Prahlada was still chanting Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu ordered a lot of wood to be set on fire at one place and placed his sister and his son Prahlad on those sticks. Wood was set on fire. As soon as the fire started, Holika's body started burning. But nothing was happening to Prahlada. Because Vishnu himself was protecting Prahlada. The fire ended and Holika also came to an end. But nothing had happened to Prahlada. Hiranyakashyap was amazed to see this.
